“Flowers for Silence”
In this body of work, the gladiolus flower is reimagined as a cultural symbol of mourning, remembrance, and loss. Often seen in funerals and burial ceremonies, this flower reminds me of those moments when words lose their meaning and nature speaks on our behalf.
Continuing the themes of my previous works, which focused on growth and emergence from darkness, this time I explore the human confrontation with absence — with what is no longer there. The gladiolus, with its upright form and vertical lines, becomes a quiet yet resilient presence at the heart of sorrow.
Creating a large number of ceramic flower sculptures not only emphasizes the repetition and accumulation of loss, but also becomes a personalized ritual — a way of remembering and recording unseen moments of grief. Griefs that, at times, are buried in silence.
